Calasanzian Lighters (CaYL) is a Piarist Vocation Club. It was founded during the time of the former National Vocation Director of the Piarist Fathers Rev. Fr. Aljun Maglangit, Sch.P. Currently, it is supervised by current National Vocation Director Rev. Fr. Roberto Dalusung, Sch. P. and assisted by Br. Robert Ibarrola, Sch. P. The CaYL is present in Kiblawan, Davao City, San Vicente (Daet) and Quezon City.
Some of the main objectives of CaYL are, “To foster, promote and encourage young people to answer God’s call to the Priesthood or Religious Life in the Order of the Pious Schools (Piarist Fathers) “ and “ To help the members in their search for God’s will for them (Single blessedness, married or religious life) as they feel attracted to consecrate their whole life to Him. “ In connection with this, Rev. Roberto and Br. Robert assist the CaYL (CaYL Jr. and Cayl Sr.) through monthly Vocation Direction Program. The CaYL Sr. (our aspirants, young professionals) who are invited monthly to be with us in Calasanz International House to know, see and experience the life of the Piarist Fathers while the CaYL Jr. ( from grade 10 to Sr. High School) are given monthly formation every last Sunday of the month in the Holy Family Parish, Novaliches. We give them catechisms, vocation awareness and expose them to the charism of the order by bringing them to the apostolate areas (together with the Professed Piarist Brothers). The CaYL Sr., in one of their monthly formations (November 23, 2019), they went to Consolation Sisters to see, experience and help Br. Romeo Manlangit and Br. Ramil Ostia (Live-in Aspirants) in giving catechism to the Youth and Children. Br. Romeo Manlangit and Br. Ramil Ostia (Live-in Aspirants) give also recollection to the students of Fiore del Carmelo School of Quezon City last December 6, 2019.
Last December 6-8, 2019, there was a fun filled and meaningful encounter between the CaYL (Jr. and Sr.) and Live- in Aspirants, Postulants and Pre-novices of the Piarist. They arrived on the night of December 6, 2019. On December 7, 2019, CaYL (Jr. and Sr.) members and Live- in Aspirants, Postulants and Pre-novices of the Piarist were divided into four groups for outdoor and indoor games/ sports. In the evening, after night prayer, we had an adoration for the increase of Priestly and Religious Vocation. On December 8, 2019, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, there was an acceptance and renewal of commitment of the CaYL members. There were 8 members who renewed their commitment and 23 members who were accepted as the new CaYL members. On December 14, 2019, some CaYL members joined with the Operation Brotherhood (OB) Montessori School of the Philippines headed by Dr. Preciosa Soliven, the founder of the school-foundation in the gift giving to the Aeta Community in Zambales. They tirelessly give games for the children, gift-giving, proper grooming and hygiene training, reading and writing to the young and old of member of the Aeta community.
Lastly, it is good to know that what we are doing helps the CaYL members grow and mature in their spiritual journey as a Christian and as a CaYL member as one of the Aspirants/ members (Jeoffrey Esguerra) said “For the most part, attending a Piarist vocation direction program is akin to embodying a Piarist brother’s perspective: seeing what the brothers see, hearing what they hear, tasting what they taste and feeling what they feel… If God wills me to join the order, I hope that I will be able to make future aspirants experience the same belongingness and acceptance I have felt whenever I am with my co-aspirants, the Piarist community, and especially the little children in our apostolate area. I pray that I may be able to lead young people to the vocation God is leading them just like how the Piarist community and the Piarist vocation direction program lead me.”
Through the intercession of St. Joseph Calasanz and Our Lady of the Pious Schools, we pray for them, for their guidance and that they may grow in the image and likeness of the one who calls and leads them to the life that is meant for them. Furthermore, we pray for the increase in vocation to the Priesthood and Religious Life especially to our Order.
